March 11-19, 2006, CALA folks joined with folks from the Twin Cities and from the Southeast region to visit Caracas, Venezuela. Our intentions were to:
Learn about US aggression towards Venezuela and the impact on the people of Venezuela
Hear from a wide array of Venezuelan views on the political, economic, and social situation
See first-hand the innovative social programs and missions of the Chavez government
Meet with labor unions, economists, professionals, business sector, media, and activists who will discuss the economic, social and political issues confronting Venezuelan society
Witness grassroots resistance to unjust and devastating impacts of neoliberal globalization
Explore alternatives to US policies of "Free Trade" and militarization in the region, and learn about organizing upon return for more just US practices towards Venezuela
The trip was planned and hosted by Witness for Peace. You can read about future trips on their web site.
We will use this space to post photos and our notes from the trip. For our presentation on march 28, 2006, we used this slide show. It doesn't say much without the narrative, but it's something to look at right now. You can also see a longer slide show in chronological order here.
